    I watched my first baseball game of the year last night, the hapless Mets against the Phils. First, I am grateful that the Mets are still playing meaningful games in May. They might even stretch this to mid-June for us fans.

    The thing that struck me was the amount of advertising. It seems that each play has a sponsor.

    “And now the pitch. It’s a Pepsi curve, a called strike. And it’s always a good call to reach for a Pepsi. The Geico count is 2 and 2, you can always count on Geico to improve your auto insurance rates. And the pitch, it’s a Buick Regal fly ball to General Motors alley between right and center. It’s caught for out number one; if you’re going out, it’s always a good idea to go in a Buick.”

    I guess I’ll go back to reading.
